Currently under developement: Gridshell Control v1.0

at the moment we are developing the final version of the Gridsehll Control project. the final machine will allow us to analyze structural systems and compare them to each other with the help the Gridshell Control v1.0 software.

the machine will also have the feature to be connected to grasshopper to be able to interactively control structural grasshopper scripts with the help of real-time gathered stress values.

the interactive surfaces - vol. one model in interaction with grasshopper

Interactive Surfaces - Vol. One

90 sensor values in one model. the "interactive surfaces vol. one" model will be shown at the University of Kassel, Germany on monday, 08.11.10 to visualize the aim of the dnalab workshop.

with the help of the model and a connection to grasshopper it is possible to control a generated interactive surface in rhinoceros. 30 joysticks are tracking the x and y movement and 30 light resistors react on light changes.

Upcoming: "Interactive Surfaces" workshop at the University of Kassel, Germany

dnaLab got invited by the University of Kassel, Germany, to hold a one week lasting workshop. The students will work on "Interactive Surfaces" by learning to work with the labuino, sensors, and beta-testing the W.A.S.P. serial tools for grasshopper. Stay tuned for results coming up in November 2010.

Currently under developement: W.A.S.P.

The currently under developement W.A.S.P. serial tools for grasshopper are workflow and datapackage optimized tools for Arduino an labuino serial connections. The first beta version will come up soon with following components:

Motor Control:
| Servo | will allow you to control servos from Rhino or Grasshopper. When more than one servo is attached, you can defined control one of them.
| Stepper | will allow you to control stepper motors from Rhino or Grasshopper. When more than one stepper is attached, you can defined control one of them.
| Motor | will allow you to control motors from Rhino or Grasshopper. When more than one motor is attached, you can defined control one of them.

Serial Write:
| String Write | writes a simple string to the serial port. There are two versions of this tool. In one the String gets flaged with an startbyte, in the other one not.
| Bytewise Write | writes single Bytes to the serial port. Gets used when values always are in range of 0 - 255 to hold the datapackage as small as possible.
| Write Boolean | writes a true or false to the serial port.
| Write Nibble | writes a Nibble to the serial port. You can create the Nibble on binary level.
| Write Byte | writes a Byte to the serial port. You can create the Byte on binary level.

Serial Read:
| String Read | reads a string from the serial port and maps it to a list of values.
| Bytewise Read | reads bytewise from the serial port and maps it to a list of values. Gets used when values always are in range of 0 - 255 to hold the datapackage as small as possible.

Currently under developement: labuino

The now currently under developement labuino is a 8-bit microcontroller and will come up in two editions:

labuino Alpha | has the same pinout as the 2009 Arduino Duemilanove and is therefore shield compatible. It will come up double sided with just a few SMD parts, so it is easy to fabricate at home. The big difference to the Arduino board lies in the removable FT232, which allows you to use it much more project-related and makes the fabrication much cheaper.

labuino Alpha micro | is basically the same as the normal Alpha version but comes up as a 'Little Footprint' and is therefore much smaller than the normal Arduino boards. This version isn't shield-compatible any more but comes also up with a removeable FT232 which is same sized as the Alpha FT232 and can therefore be used with both labuino boards.

There are also some shields currently under developement:

The | TLC Shield | uses 1 TLC 5940 but is stackable.
The | TLC Servo Shield | is almost the same, but will allow you to use TLCs for Servo control.
The | Stepper Shield | uses a L297 - L298 combo and allows you to control one bipolar stepper motor with 2A and max 46V in full and half step mode.
The | Motor Shield | comes up in two versions. Version Nr.1 uses two L293D and allows you to attach up to 4 bi-directional DC motors with max 600mA. Version Nr.2 uses one L293. You can attach up to 2 motors with max 1,2 A.

Stay clean for upcoming information.
